FDU-Florham in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon. With finals week just around the corner, the Eagles took their first test of the week against a tough team from the MAC. The visiting Devils took a 14 point lead into halftime and steadily increased their advantage to emerge with a 74-42 win.
The Eagles scored 84 points in their win on Thursday night, but cold shooting and an inability to generate extra chances through steals or offensive rebounding saw the Eastern attack stumble to half that mark this afternoon. The FDU man-to-man defense kept Mandy Kuiken from ever finding a rhythm, and kept the Eastern forwards off the offensive glass.
The Eagles shot just 26% for the game, while the visiting Devils worked the ball for inside attempts and connected on 52%. Joelle DeCarlo led the Eagles with 16 points on the afternoon, but no other player scored over five points for the home team. FDU got a strong all-around game from Emily Cerankowski. She connected for 19 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals. Danielle Michlovsky led all scorers with 22 points on 10-12 shooting from the field.
Coach Levis said after the game, ""We will need to use our time over break to find consistency in a lot of things. I expect that we will find more consistent effort in the second semester."
Next year after Eastern moves into the MAC, the two teams will square off as Conference opponents. After the Christmas Break, the Eagles will return to action January 7 at PSU-Delco before returning to conference action on the 12th of January with a home game against Centenary College.
