as they dropped their fourth straight game to start the season. The Owls of Bryn Mawr jumped to an 18-3 lead early and held on to win 57-38 in a non-conference match in Bryn Mawr.
The Eagles struggled early to gain any rhythm, and only a three point play from Mandy Kuiken interrupted the early offensive outburst from the hosts. Halfway through the first half, the Owls led 18-3. The Eagles responded with a 6-0 run, and were able to close the deficit to 23-16 on a Jeriah Garton free throw with three minutes to play in the opening period. Bryn Mawr finished the half on a 6-2 run to lead by 11 at the break.
Eastern struggled to 28% shooting in the first half, but were able to keep the game close by staying even in the rebounding categories and holding Bryn Mawr to 33% shooting.
The Eagles defense increased the pressure coming out in the second half, but time and again, Bryn Mawr's Katie Driscoll would spot up and hit a three-pointer to relieve pressure for her team. Driscoll finished with a game-high 21 points on 5-8 shooting from behind the arc. The Eagles did not hit a three pointer for the night.
While the Eagles struggled from the field in the first half, the second half was an even greater struggle as Eastern hit on just 7 of 38 shots. The lone upside to the evening was the strong work on the offensive glass by the Eagles who were able to secure 19 offensive rebounds for the game.
First year forward Shanelle Timothy led Eagles with 11 points and 9 rebounds. Eastern returns to action on Saturday afternoon with their home-opener against Alvernia College.
