Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer needs OT to beat Stockton

After a disappointing draw at Gwynedd-Mercy on the weekend, Eastern University Men's Soccer bounced back with a 2-1 overtime win over a very solid Richard Stockton College squad (6-4-2). Scott Patrick scored the game-winner just over two minutes into the first overtime period.

The Eagles jumped on the board early in the match on a Brian Raffle goal. The sophomore wing finished a Lance Burris serve to give the Eagles a lead that would stand up until the latter stages of the second half.

Down a goal, the visiting Ospreys changed the tempo of the match and were able to find the equalizer in the 71st minute on a Pat Tolemo goal. The Eagles, who fired 15 shots to the Ospreys six on the day. responded to the goal with composure, and began to take control of the ball for the last minutes of regulation. Coach Mark Wagner said of the response, "I was pleased with our reaction to their goal. We were able to get ourselves together and start to keep the ball and that was an important moment for us as a team. That confidence and calm in that moment represents a big step for us."

Neither team was able to break the tie in regulation, and the Eagles began their fourth overtime of the year with momentum on their side. The Eagles did not disappoint their Olson Field followers when Patrick headed a Raffle cross into the upper left corner in the 93rd minute of the match. Raffle was able to find space to serve the final ball after a well-weighted pass from senior back Bryce Plummer put him into the final third.

Noah Bartelt and Michael Dorsch each made a pair of saves in goal for Eastern. The Eagles, now 7-2-1 on the year return to action Saturday with another tough non-conference game at Montclair State University. The men will play the second game of a soccer double-header between the two schools with a 6:00 pm start.
