Matthew Esquijerosa is entering his fourth season with the Eastern University Baseball program and his second season as the team’s Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Since joining the Eagles in July of 2023, Esquijerosa has played a major role in the growth and success of the Eastern Baseball program. He previously served as the Assistant Pitching Coach and Bullpen Coach during his first two years with the program.
A native of Miami, Florida, Esquijerosa has helped elevate Eastern’s pitching staff into one of the top-performing units in the region and nationally. In his first season as Pitching Coach during the 2026 season, Eastern Baseball set a new program record with 26 wins while the pitching staff rewrote the school record books. Under his leadership, the Eagles set program records for lowest team ERA, WHIP, most shutouts, lowest opponent batting average, and fewest hits and runs allowed in a season. The staff also finished ranked Top 40 nationally in ERA and Top 15 nationally in shutouts.
Esquijerosa has overseen the development of multiple All-MAC Commonwealth pitchers, including Second-Team All-MAC Commonwealth relievers John Westfield (2024) and Roy Corso (2025), along with First-Team All-MAC Commonwealth starting pitcher Brennan Moloughney (2026). His staff have shown consistent improvement across all major pitching categories, including ERA, strikeouts, walks, batting average against, hits allowed, WHIP, and overall run prevention.
In addition to leading the pitching staff, Esquijerosa serves as Eastern’s Recruiting Coordinator and oversees all baseball operations for the program. He brings a strong passion for player development, recruiting, analytics, and organizational excellence to the Eagles program. He is also certified by Driveline Baseball in Pitching Mechanics and Biomechanics.
Esquijerosa was a collegiate pitcher who began his career at Cabrini University before transferring to Ave Maria University in Southwest Florida, where he pitched for three seasons. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing from Ave Maria University and completed his MBA in Management from Eastern University in May 2025.
