Matthew Esquijerosa enters his fourth season with the Eastern University Baseball program and his second season as the team’s Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Since joining the Eagles in July 2023, Esquijerosa has played a key role in the continued growth and success of the program. He previously served as the Assistant Pitching Coach and Bullpen Coach during his first two seasons at Eastern.
A native of Miami, Esquijerosa has helped develop Eastern’s pitching staff into one of the top-performing units in the region and nationally. In his first season as Pitching Coach in 2026, the Eagles set a new single-season program record with 26 wins while rewriting multiple pitching records. Under his leadership, Eastern established new program marks for lowest team ERA, WHIP, lowest opponent batting average, most shutouts, and fewest hits and runs allowed in a season. The Eagles finished the season ranked 36th nationally in team ERA and 14th nationally in shutouts, highlighting one of the most successful pitching seasons in program history.
Esquijerosa has overseen the development of multiple All-MAC Commonwealth pitchers, including Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth relievers John Westfield (2024) and Roy Corso (2025), along with First Team All-MAC Commonwealth starting pitcher Brennan Moloughney (2026). Moloughney was also named to the 2026 ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 5 Team, becoming the first pitcher in program history to earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors. Several pitchers under Esquijerosa’s guidance have produced career-best seasons while showing significant improvement in command, overall performance, and run prevention. His pitching staffs have consistently improved across all major statistical categories, including ERA, strikeouts, walks, batting average against, WHIP, and overall run prevention.
In addition to leading Eastern’s pitching staff, Esquijerosa serves as the program’s Recruiting Coordinator and oversees baseball operations. He has helped assemble one of the largest recruiting classes in program history while expanding Eastern’s recruiting footprint nationally and internationally. Esquijerosa has recruited student-athletes from across the United States and internationally, utilizing his bilingual fluency in English and Spanish to help build strong relationships throughout the recruiting process. He also oversees all recruiting visits, campus tours, and daily operational responsibilities for the program.
He brings a strong passion for player development, recruiting, and organizational excellence to the Eagles program. He is also certified in Pitching Mechanics and Biomechanics through Driveline Baseball.
Esquijerosa played collegiately at Cabrini University before transferring to Ave Maria University, where he pitched for three seasons. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing from Ave Maria University before completing his MBA in Management from Eastern University in May 2025.
