Faith Leake made eight saves for her third shutout of the year and the 14th of her career, but the Eagles were held of the scoresheet for the third consecutive match.
After Leake made her first two saves of the night in the first 10 minutes, sophomore defender
Heather Abzug recorded the Eagles' lone shot of the first half, but her chance was saved by Rutgers goalkeeper Maura Chawner. Leake made two more saves in the final 12 minutes to keep the match scoreless at halftime.
Eastern had several strong opportunities late in the second half, firing off four shots in the final 16 minutes, but none would find twine.
Corrine Myers and
Katelyn Mason had chances stopped by Chawner, and
Ella Bansch fired a shot that just went wide in the 87th minute.
Eastern (2-3-1) will be back on the road Wednesday at Penn State Harrisburg.
