Men's Lacrosse Falls Short at Kean

UNION, N.J.— After splitting a pair of one-sided affairs in the first week of the year, Eastern University Men's Lacrosse came up on the short end of a 13-10 game at Kean University. John Tinney and Brett Gougler each scored twice, but the host Cougars won each of the final three quarters by a single goal to emerge with the win.

Gougler scored from Brett Williamson on the first possession of the game, and after Kean equalized on a man-up goal, Duncan Starmer gave the Eagles a lead with an unassisted tally with four-and-a-half minutes left in the quarter. Kean equalized with ninety seconds left in the quarter.

After Kean scored first in the second half, Tinney scored twice to tie the score at 7-7. The game, however, did not stay tied for long. The Cougars (1-1) converted a faceoff win and held an 8-7 edge until Starmer set up Maxwell Forrey for a goal with four minutes left.

Kean scored the final two goals of the third to built a two-goal edge.

With a goal to open the fourth, the Cougars grabbed the first three-goal lead of the game. Tinney closed the gap to 11-9 with his third of the day, but two more Kean goals meant that a late tally from Fanelli would not impact the result.
