ST. DAVIDS, Pa. -
Corrine Myers scored a pair of second half goals,
Saige Korpics and
Tia Argento each notched one tally, and Eastern Women's Soccer picked up its first conference win of the season with a 4-0 shutout win over the Neumann University Knights to open Homecoming Weekend. The Eagles scored in the first nine minutes, before adding three second half tallies in a 19-minute span.
The Eagles controlled both possession and field position from the opening kickoff, moving well with and without the ball and creating a plethora of quality scoring chances. Eastern outshot the Knights 33-6 for the match, which included a 21-4 margin in shots on goal.
Korpics struck first in the ninth minute, one timing a shot off a great cross from
Billinda Leisner into the top right corner of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. It was the third goal of the year for the first-year midfielder and the first assist of the year for Leisner. It was Korpics' first tally since scoring in back-to-back matches against Washington College and Penn State Abington to open the season. From there, the Eagles continued to apply pressure, firing off 16 total shots in the first half while limiting the Knights to just three.
Corinne Myers, after scoring against York on Tuesday, remained red hot, scoring both of her goals 11 minutes apart. She needed just 38 seconds after halftime to notch her first, taking a strong pass from
Mia Zucker in the midfield and burying it past Neumann goalkeeper Shannon Duffy to double the Eastern advantage. Later, in the 57th minute,
Molly Schellpeper beat her defender, circled around the box, and put the ball on frame. Duffy made the original save, but Myers pounced on the rebound for her second goal and her third in the last two matches.
The Eagles completed their scoring in the 65th minute, as Argento scored her first goal of the season. Off a strong corner kick from
Heather Abzug, Argento elevated and headed Abzug's service past Duffy to put the Eagles ahead 4-0. It was Argento's first goal since Eastern's 5-0 win over Albright back on Oct. 30, 2024.
Faith Leake and first-year
Abby Drucis combined for the shutout. Leake made three saves, while Drucis made one save in the final 22:30. It is the second combined shutout for the duo this season, and the 16th career shutout for Leake.
Eastern (5-6-1) will hit the road on Wednesday to take on the Stevenson Mustangs in Owings Mills at 7:00 pm.
