Men's Soccer Wins at Alvernia

READING, Pa.— Eastern University Men's Soccer scored a pair of second-half goals at Alvernia to pick up an important three points in the league. Morris Marshall and João Tarabal scored on quality passes from Marcus Pringle and Zach Sievert.

Though the Eagles (7-3-3, 2-2) created chances early, the match remained level through halftime. Eastern had a 9-7 edge in first half shots and earned four corner kicks while forcing four saves. Michael Archer made both of his saves in the first half.

Pringle created the opening goal with a hard-working run up the right side. The senior forward moved through traffic into the box and fired a hard cross toward the back post from near the endline. Marshall arrived on time and slammed home his fourth goal of the year. The sophomore winger now has three goals in MAC Commonwealth play.

With Nate Holt and Ryan Belmont managing the back row behind Osmond Chan, the Eastern defense allowed just a pair of hopeful attempts from the hosts in the second half.

Eastern's second goal came out of a combination in the attacking third in the 86th minute. Sievert and Ethan Pfau combined on the right side with Pfau slipping and playing a ball into space in the box. Sievert attacked the goal, drew commitment from the Alvernia goalkeeper, and slid a pass to the middle of the second-six. Tarabal slammed home his first goal of the year and secured the important result.

"We were really good today," Head Coach Luca Mellor said. "We created loads of chances, and probably could have had more. Zach's pass on the last goal really summed things up. We played together and for each other. It was an another clean sheet from Michael and our back line.  Osmond and Iñego were both tremendous winning the ball for us."

The Eagles have a few moments to recover before hosting Albright for another MAC Commonwealth match on Wednesday. The Golden Wolves (4-7-3, 0-3-2) are likely confined to spoiler role with matches at York and Neumann and a home game against Messiah left on the schedule.
