READING, Pa. — Eastern University Women's Basketball put four players in double-figures and made 17-of-18 shots from the line to pull away to a 72-51 win at Penn State Berks. The Eagles (2-0) made 11-of-25 from behind the arc, and held the Lions to 33% shooting to pick up a second road win in two outings.
The Lions (0-3) led 16-9 after one quarter as the eagles made only 3-of-16 from the floor in the first period. Berks scored the first basket of the second quarter before the Eagles closed the frame on a 23-6 run.
Sophia Vera had nine of her team-high 17 in the decisive run. Eastern took the lead for good at 23-20 on a 3-pointer from
Jeriyah Johnson with two minutes left in the half and doubled the lead when Vera hit from deep.
Adriana Summersett scored on a put-back basket to put the Eagles up 32-24 at halftime. Vera led the Eagles with nine points at the break.
The Eagles scored 24 of the first 30 points of the second half to build a 26 point lead. A 3-pointer at th Buzzer gave the hosts a little momentum at heading into the fourth quarter, but Vera hit 3-pointers on either side of a Johnson triple and
Kayla Martinez scored inside to put Eastern up 30 with five minutes to play.
Damiyae Moyet hit four 3-pointers to finish the game with 12 points and eight rebounds. Summersett and Johnson each finished with ten points. Johnson had a team-best six assists. Vera made all three of her 3-point attempts and was 6-of-6 from the foul line to post 17 points. The rookie guard also grabbed six rebounds and handed out four assists.
Madeline Wylie had eight rebounds and
Tychelle Gordon had seven as the Eagles won the battle on the glass for the second-straight game.
"I'm pleased that we pickedup another win on the road," Head Coach
Sarah Fowler said. "We had 15 players play and 11 score. I am very pleased with our3-point shooting and free throw shooting."
Through two games, the Eagles are shooting 83 percent from the line and 38 percent from behind the arc.
Eastern will play a pair of games at Roanoke this weekend. After opening with the host Maroons, they will take on Hollins on Saturday.
