Baseball Swept by Alvernia to Conclude Series

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Baseball concluded its season series with Alvernia on Saturday with a pair of losses. The Eagles rallied from a six-run deficit before the Golden Wolves scored 10 unanswered to win game one, 16-6. Eastern scored two runs and loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but failed to complete the comeback in a 5-2 loss in game two.

Alvernia (16-9, 9-3) struck first for four runs in the first and two more in the second to grab an early 6-0 advantage, but the Eagles began to push back in their half of the second frame. After Joe Paradise walked, Brian Lang crushed his first home run of the year over the left-center field wall to put the Eagles on the board. In the third, after a Garrett Friend walk and an Evan Barks double to left field, a Luke Meehan sacrifice fly cut the Alvernia advantage to 6-3. Logan Klember followed with an RBI single through the middle to make it 6-4.

Eastern drew even in the fourth on a Barks RBI single and another run-scoring base hit for Klember, but Alvernia took control from there. The Golden Wolves scored three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and five more in the seventh to secure the victory. Barks finished 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Klember went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Alvernia ace Nick Ferraioli kept the Eastern offense in check through eight innings of game two, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out six. Eastern had a runner on second with no outs in the third, a a runner on third in the fourth, and a runner on second in the sixth, but failed to bring any runs home in those frames.

The Eagles made things interesting in the ninth. Klember reached on an error before reaching second on another miscuse, Paradise reached on a fielders choice, and Brock Langlotz walked to load the bases with one out. Klember went on to score on another Alvernia fielding error, and Lang grounded out to score Paradise and cut the lead to 5-2. The Eagles would not get any closer, however, leaving the bases loaded to end the contest. Barks finished 2-for-4 in game two, while Jason Hall recorded a double.

Eastern (11-13, 4-7) will be back at The Yard tomorrow to conclude its season series with Messiah. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
