Women's Tennis Tops Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - In its second match of the young season, Eastern Women's Tennis recorded its first win with a 7-2 triumph over the Cedar Crest College Falcons on Wednesday evening. The Eagles won at all three doubles while also taking four of the six singles matches. With the victory, Eastern recorded its seventh straight triumph over the Falcons and improved to 14-5 overall in head-to-head matchups.

Sarah Mower and Rhyan Metzger emerged victorious in a ferocious battle at No. 1 doubles against Katherine Francine and Brittany Schultz, winning the tiebreaker, 7-5, to take the match, 8-7 (7-5). The duo of first-year Grace Schriever and senior Mercedes Lohmann grabbed an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, while the twosome of first-year Kiley McHugh and sophomore Anisah Smith earned an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Metzger also earned a win in singles competition, defeating Schultz 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Lohmann, after dropping the first set at No. 4 singles, roared back with a 6-3 victory in set two and a thrilling 12-10 triumph in set three to beat Jamie Reed 4-6, 6-3, 12-10. McHugh earned a sweep at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Celia Fisher, and Smith capped off Eastern's night with a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 6 singles.

"I'm really proud of the way they fought today," Eastern Head Coach Harrison Bitzberger said. "We had a few matches that could've gone either way and that would've swung the match the other way. But when things got tight, we were able to stay within ourselves and do things the right way to get the job done."

Eastern (1-1) will continue its fall season next Saturday, Sept. 30, at Neumann. First serve is scheduled for 12 noon.
