Eastern Athletics Hosts First Annual Bone Marrow Drive

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - On Tuesday, April 25, both Eastern Football and Field Hockey will host their first annual Bone Marrow Drive on campus.

Both teams will be partnering with the national bone marrow organization "Be The Match Foundation" as well as former Villanova Head Football Coach Andy Talley's organization "Get in the Game - Save a Life" to add potential donors to the registry.

Coach Talley's organization has helped add over 200,000 student-athletes to the registry and resulted in over 900 life-saving transplants. "Get in the Game" is also partnered with over 250 colleges and universities involved with their mission.

One requirement for being a potential donor is, you must be between the ages of 18-35 as the match rate is significantly higher within their own ethnic group. Once registered, the process is nothing more than a cheek swab.

"With the large volume of student-athletes we have here at Eastern, we think that if each program promoted participation among their respective teams, we would see exceptional numbers added on the 25th," Head Football Coach Billy Crocker said.

The event will be held outside of McInnis from 10 am to 3 pm, with athletes directing those interested to registration tables around campus.
