ANNVILLE, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse scored 19 of the first 22 goals in the game and held on for a 21-11 MAC Commonwealth win over Lebanon Valley College.
Christopher Fanelli scored six goals and
Nicholas Fanelli recorded a career-best eight assists. With his fourth assist of the day, he became the second Eastern Men's Lacrosse player to reach 100 career assists, with his eighth, he tied David Darling atop the Eastern career list with 104. Thirteen different Eagles scored in the win.
The Eastern offense did not find the net in the opening five minutes. The Eagles broke through on a
Jason Poole tally with 9:52 on the clock. The rookie midfielder caught a pass from
Avery Porter just above the crease and ripped home an underhanded attempt for his 13th of the year. Two minutes later,
Christopher Fanelli dunked in a rebound of a
Luc Trudel shot. Porter made the Eastern edge 3-0 on a finish on the doorstep of a pass from
Nicholas Fanelli.
The 3-0 lead stood as the Eastern defense turned away the Dutchmen on three occasions on a pair of
Ethan Myers saves and a caused turnover by
Zach Puckett. Following a Myers save with three minutes on the clock, the Eagles scored a highlight reel goal off a deliberate clear.
Gavin Stark caught a pass at the top fo the box and passed left.
Nicholas Fanelli caught the Stark pass and went behind-the-back to his brother who was standing at goal-line-extended.
Christopher Fanelli fed the crease and Stark caught it and finished with a behind-the-back effort of his own.
Nicholas Fanelli picked up his second helper of the day on a man-up goal by
Christopher Fanelli with 1:57 on the clock. One minute later, the duo combined again in the same order for a 6-0 lead. The Eagles held the big edge at the end of the quarter despite only having a 13-10 advantage in shots. Myers made five of his 11 saves in the first quarter.
Myers made a save to thwart a man-up chance, and the Eagles took advantage of a very short man-up chance with a
Nick Litzenberger goal from
Nicholas Fanelli. The Dutchmen found a goal on a failed clear with 12 minutes left in the half.
Nicholas Fanelli picked up his 100th career assist on another man-up goal from Stark. The older Fanelli set up the next two goals for a 10-1 lead.
Christopher Fanelli scored from close range and Ryan Sheivert buried one from the right alley.
Jake Gottschalk,
Connor Bachman, and
Christopher Fanelli scored in the final three and a half minutes for a 13-2 lead.
The Eagles finished with a 19-7 edge in shots in both the second and third quarters.
Eastern scored four goals in the first four minutes of the second half. Both Fanelli's and Bachman scored and
Dominic Marangoni scored in transition. They then added two more to answer a third LVC goal. Fanelli tied the record when he set up Porter on the doorstep in a two-man advantage situation.
Jack Bradley scored the 19th goal after a faceoff win from
Patrick McClain. McClain was 12-for-21 with nine ground balls on faceoffs.
Ryan Drobnick and
Jake Vitone scored the final two Eastern goals.
The Eagles (7-6, 4-0) remain unbeaten in the MAC Commonwealth. They will host fellow unbeaten York at 1:00 pm on Saturday. The Spartans (7-5, 3-0) beat Alvernia 19-1 this evening.
