Men's Soccer Earns Road Win at York

YORK, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Soccer got an Aidan Link penalty kick goal in the 36th minute and made it stand for an important 1-0 MAC Commonwealth win at York College. Ty Bleiler stopped a penalty kick and made five total saves to secure the squad's first clean sheet of the season.

The host Spartans had much of the ball early, but the Eagles found chances in transition and in pressuring in deep spaces. Osmond Chan hit the underside of the crossbar with a 35-yard bomb in the 13th minute. Zach Sievert had another effort from distance two minutes later.

The Eastern penalty materialized after a good stretch of play when Haroon Hussieni won a ball on the right side. The Eagles looked for a quick advantage, but when none materialized swung the ball through the back row. Steven Fajardo pushed a pass into Matt Capuano who found Husseini back on the right flank.

After a quick move, Husseini carved a hard cross into the middle. Zach Sievert beat his mark to the ball and was upended 14 yards from goal. Link converted his second penalty of the year for what would turn out to be the only goal of the match.

The Spartans (4-6-3, 1-3) had their chance to equalize when they earned a penalty on a dribble off the right wing. The York forward got just enough space, earned contact and did not fight to stay up. Bleiler, however, was ready. Eastern's sophomore backstop guessed correctly and parried the hard shot around the left upright for a corner. The Eastern defense defended the corner well and kept the hosts off the board.

Despite protecting a lead, Eastern had a 9-6 edge in second-half shots. Many of those efforts came in transition against a York team that was pushing forward.

The win gives the Eagles an important three points and a tiebreaker over the Spartans. Eastern will host Stevenson on Saturday.
