Women's Soccer Falls to Moravian

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - In its final non-conference contest before league play, Eastern Women's Soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to Moravian at Olson Field on Wednesday evening. The Eagles were unable to muster much offense and an early tally by the visitors in the second half proved to be the difference.

Throughout the evening, Moravian dominated both possession and field position. They were able to move the ball efficiently and to create several strong scoring chances throughout the match. Additionally, they played strong defense, not allowing the Eagles to operate much in their offensive zone.

After eight shots in the first 45 minutes, the Greyhounds were able to break the scoreless tie in the 51st minute. A shot off the right foot of Sydney DeFranco sailed just over the head of Brooke Moskey, off the crossbar, and into the net, putting the Greyhounds up 1-0.

That goal was all Moravian needed as they continued to hold the advantage in possession for the remainder of the match. Eastern's best chance in the second half came off a caused turnover by Paige Snell in the box, but Madelyn Mullen's subsequent chance did not find twine.

"Moravian was a tough side. They held onto the ball well," Eastern Head Coach Jess Shanahan said. "Our girls need to stay dialed in for a full 90 minutes and have more composure in the attacking third. We are a tough team to play against, but we need to turn the corner for conference play and produce positive results."

Eastern will travel to Owings Mills on Saturday to open up MAC Commonwealth play against Stevenson. The contest will begin at 1:00 pm.
