Baseball Falls at Cairn

LANGHORNE, Pa. - In its final non-conference contest of the season, Eastern Baseball (10-20) was unable to slow down an efficient Cairn offense in a 16-4 loss on Wednesday afternoon. The Highlanders used a five-run opening frame to take a lead they would not relinquish.

The Eagles finished the game with seven hits, two of which were for extra bases. Sean Cottrell recorded his sixth home run of the year to drive in his 34th run, extending his team lead in both categories. Garrett Friend continued his offensive hot streak with a double, while David Hunsberger collected his 14th RBI. Brian Lang, Brock Langlotz, Matt McHale, Mark Cruser, and Connor Schilling each added one knock apiece.

Hunsberger started the scoring in the top of the first, plating Lang with a sacrifice fly to right field for the 1-0 lead. The Highlanders (14-11) answered back in their half of the frame with five runs on a pair of sacrifice flies, two doubles, and a single. Logan Klember scored on a Cairn error in the top of the second to cut the deficit to three, but the Highlanders got the run back in the bottom of the frame to regain their three-run advantage.

Lang scored his second run of the day in the fourth frame on another Highlander miscue to make it 6-3 in favor of Cairn, but that was as close as the Eagles would get. The Highlanders would go on to outscore the Eagles 10-1 the remainder of the contest to secure the season split.

Eastern will be back in action this Saturday in Owings Mills for a two-game set with MAC Commonwealth foe Stevenson. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
