GETTYSBURG, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse dropped its season-opener at No. 16 Gettysburg College, 16-4.
Nicholas Fanelli scored twice and and
Patrick McClain was 12-of-19 at the faceoff x.
The Eagles won 5-of-8 faceoffs in the opening frame, but six of those came after goals from the Bullets.
Kyle Mulrane found the net to cut the Gettysburg lead to 3-1 with 8:44 on the clock, but the Bullets scored the final three goals of the first quarter and the only two goals of the second to lead 8-1 at the intermission.
After turning the ball over 18 times int he first half, the Eagles took better care fo the ball in the second but were still only able to solve the Gettysburg defense three times.
Avery Porter picked up a pair of assists,
Connor Bachman scored a goal, and rookie midfielder
Christopher Fanelli picked up his first career point on an assist to his brother in the fourth quarter.
Ethan Myers made 14 stops in goal and picked up four ground balls. McClain had eight ground balls.
"Pat and our faceoff group had a really good day," Head Coach
Kevin Wallace said after the game. "We made too many mistakes and not enough plays to beat a team of that level. We need to see that and get there."
The Eagles are on Olson Field for their next two games. They will host Swarthmore at 3:30 on Wednesday and Misericordia at 1:00 next Saturday.
