Women's Volleyball to Play Marymount in Fredericksburg

INDIANAPOLIS– The NCAA today announced the 64-team field and pairings for the 2022 Division III Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament. The MAC Commonwealth Champion Eastern Eagles will start their NCAA Tournament run with a 5:30 pm match against the Marymount University Saints at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va. The Saints (19-14) earned their trip to the NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 win at Cabrini University for the Atlantic East Championship.

While Eastern holds a 6-3 edge in the all-time series, this is the first meeting between the two sides since Marymount won in three close sets in 2018. In the meeting before that, the Eagles won 3-0 in 2014.

The two teams played several common opponents this year, with both teams beating Cabrini, Neumann, Gallaudet, Alvernia, Marywood, and York. Both teams fell to Johns Hopkins in the regular season. Including its two wins over MAC Commonwealth runner-up Stevenson, Eastern is 4-3 against teams in the field. The Eagles also beat both Cortland and Rowan and lost to Hopkins, Swarthmore, and Juniata. The Saints went 1-7 with their only win coming against Stevens Institute of Technology in the opening weekend of the season. They played a pair of matches at Mary Washington over Halloween weekend.

The winner of the match between Eastern and Marymount will take on the winner of the 7:30 pm contest between the hosts and the CSAC Champion Cedar Crest University Falcons. That match would be at 7:00 pm on Friday.

On the other side of the bracket, MAC Freedom Champion Stevens Institute will play against Skyline Champion and former MAC Freedom member Manhattanville College, and Centennial Conference Champion Johns Hopkins will play against the Hunter College Hawks, the winners of the City University of New York Athletic Conference.

The Regional Championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 5:00 pm.

All matches will be streamed. Tickets for the tournament will be good for all games in a day. Adult tickets will be $10 and student and senior tickets will be $5.
