Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Playing against the one of the top teams in the MAC Commonwealth, Eastern Women's Basketball (6-11, 3-6 MACC) fell behind early and were unable to recover in a 77-37 less to Messiah. The host Falcons led wire-to-wire, outscoring the Eagles 40-13 in the opening two quarters to build a comfortable advantage they would not relinquish.

Taryn Woodson put together another strong performance for Eastern, recording her ninth double-double of her freshman campaign. The Harrisburg, Pa. native finished with a game-high 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds, four of which were on the offensive glass. Mikayla Wright also finished in double figures, scoring 12 points and four boards.

The Falcons (14-2, 7-1 MACC) were effective on the offensive end all afternoon, knocking down 31-of-58 field goals (53.4 percent) and six-of-13 from beyond the arc (46.2 percent). Conversely, the Eagles shot just 16-of-51 from the field (31.4 percent) while failing to knock down a single attempt from three-point range (0-9).

Messiah scored the first four points of the game, before Woodson answered with a pair of layups to cut the Falcons' lead to 6-4 at the 7:37 mark of the first quarter. That was as close as the Eagles would get, as the Falcons ended the quarter on a 16-5 run to take control of the contest the rest of the way.

After its two-game road trip, Eastern will return home to the NEST on Wednesday to take on Widener for the second time this season. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm.
