ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Eastern University Field Hockey dropped a 4-2 decision at Muhlenberg College. The host Mules scored the first two goals of the contest and held on for the win.
Emma Kircher and
JoEl Groff each scored goals for the Eagles.
Muhlenberg broke through in the 14th minute off a scrum in front of the goal. The Mules doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, but three minutes later Kircher cut the deficit in half. Off a restart,
Hailey Ferry broke down the Muhlenberg defense with a strong run up the right side. Her cross into the box found Kircher in a pocket of space and the sophomore tucked home her first career tally.
The Eagles were unable to generate another shot through the first half and Muhlenberg made it 3-1 just after the midpoint of the third. A penalty stroke in the fourth made it 4-1 before the Groff pushed home a pass from Lapp for her team-best second goal of the year.
"We scored two goals," Head Coach
Camrin Azzarano said, "but our decision making and execution on clears was not what it needed to be. Abby [Agapito] made some great plays in goal, but we were not able to get the clears we needed.
Lily White and
Grace Wise both made several great defensive plays to keep the ball out of the circle, but we allowed Muhlenberg to put us under a lot of pressure."
The Eagles have a tough home test this weekend. They will host Stockton at 11 am on Saturday.
