Hollinger's OT Tally Lifts Eagles to Win over Shenandoah

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - In a well-played, hard-fought affair in its return to Olson Field on Saturday afternoon, Eastern Women's Soccer emerged victorious in a 1-0 overtime triumph over Shenandoah. The victory broke a two-game losing streak for the Eagles and improved their record to 2-0-1 at home.

"I am extremely proud of the entire team for the effort put forth today," Eastern Head Coach AJ Stueck said. "They executed the game plan to perfection."

After a scoreless 90 minutes of play, Gabi Hollinger needed just 51 seconds to score her first goal of 2021 and secure the Eagles' second victory of the season in the process.

Off a throw-in from Lydia Moody, Brynn Rathsam laid a perfect pass to a streaking Hollinger in front of the Shenandoah net. Hollinger's ensuing shot caught the Shenandoah goalkeeper but rolled into the net in the bottom left corner, sending the Eagles, and the crowd in attendance, into a frenzy.

"The midfield and forwards really battled today, and that was a special moment of skill from Gabi and Brynn," Stueck said.

Along with Hollinger's overtime heroics, Saturday's victory marked a special milestone for Eastern first year goalkeeper Emily Honig. While the Hornets outshot the Eagles by a 12-8 margin and held a majority of the possession after halftime, Honig stood tall, making six saves, all of which came in the final 45 minutes.

"I'm glad to see the defense and team earn its first shutout of the season," Stueck said. "Credit to Emily and the entire back for being tuned in for every minute of the game."

Lindsay Kline and Sydney Konscol led the Eagles' offensive attack with two shots apiece, while Rathsam and Madelyn Mullen also recorded one shot apiece in the victory.

Eastern will be back on the road on Tuesday, traveling to Aston to take on Neumann. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm.
