Field Hockey Drops Senior Day Test Against Arcadia

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey finished its 2021 season with a home non-league test against the Arcadia University Knights. Eastern scored the opening goal of the match, but the visiting Knights got a second-half hat trick from Ashlyn Barton and pulled away to a 5-2 win. The Eastern program honored seniors Harper Sellers, Lindsey Estep and Jenna Lapp before the contest.

The Eagles put together a strong opening quarter with strong defending and solid passing leading to chances in the circle. Good possession led to back-to-back penalty corners just after the midpoint of the period. Morgan Ruhl had a shot from in close saved on the first one, so the Eagles elected a more direct approach for the second. Ruhl played the insert to Hailey Ferry on the near side. Ferry drew the defense in before slipping a pass to Maisie Dorwart just inside the circle. The ball seemed to hit the backboard just as Dorwart made contact.

The 1-0 lead held until the 29th minute. Arcadia found the goal on a penalty corner. The blast from Autumn Gahman came on the Knights third corner of the half. Eastern had a 5-to-3 edge in first-half corners.

Though the Eagles had a 6-to-1 edge on corners in the third period, but the Knights capitalized on their only corner and figured out a way to score twice in transition to grab command of the game.

Eastern grabbed a goal back when Jenna Lapp earned the circle and found Ellie Pruitt on the doorstep in the 59th minute, but the Knights (9-10) scored in the 60th minute for the final margin.

The Eagles had a 15-5 edge in corners for the game. Arcadia goalie Grace Fenner finished with 13 saves.
