Baseball Tipped at Swarthmore

SWARTHMORE, Pa.– With Spring Break coming next week, Eastern University Baseball looked to cap mid-term week with one final test before heading south. The Eagles took a trip down the Blue Route to take on a Swarthmore team that has won 67 games in the last two year. While they did not emerge with a win against the Garnet, the Eagles played with the Centennial Conference power but fell 5-3. After hitting an RBI single in the fourth, Shane Albertson hit a game-tying home run in the sixth. The Garnet (2-0) answered witha two-run shot in the bottom of the inning for the win.

How It Happened:
Swarthmore jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first and a single tally in the third. The Eagles scored twice in the fourth. Brad Clemens and Albertson each delivered two-out RBI's. Albertson delivered another two-out RBI with his first home run of the season. His shot cleared the 339 sign in left.

The Garnet turned a lead-off walk into a rally with a one-out home run in the bottom of the inning. Mickey Foytik allowed only seven hits in his six innings of work. Tyler Bennett struck out four of the six batters he faced in his two innings of relief.

The Eagles matched the Garnet with seven hits. Liam Clarke hit another double.

Coach Renauro Says:
"We played a solid game today. Some days we get the big hit, but today we didn't. We left too many guys in scoring position, so we will have to keep working on situational hitting, but their guys made some good pitches in critical situations. We were able to keep putting pressure on them with Shanes's homerun, doubles and stolen bases. Just need the big hit with runners in scoring position."

"I was really pleased to see Mickey and Bennett both pitch well today. Neither had his best stuff against Cabrini, but they both made a lot of good pitches today. We are looking forward to playing in some warmer weather next week."

Up Next:
The Eagles are in Myrtle Beach for five games next week. Their first doubleheader is on Tuesday.
