Baseball Drops Season-Opener to Cabrini

ASTON, Pa.– Eastern University Baseball had a pair of early leads, but the host Cabrini University Cavaliers strung together hits in the third and fifth innings on the way to a 10-2 win. Four of Estern's six hits went for extra-bases.

How It Happened:
Shane Albertson led off the game with a double and Liam Clarke was able to move him to third with a ground ball. Jake Jones picked up a ground ball with a one out ground ball The Cavaliers leveled the score in the bottom of the inning when the Eagles were unable to turn a double-play with runners on first and third with one out.

Britton Lawrence drove in Clarke with a two-out double in the top of the third, but the Eaglles were unable to build on the lead and the Cavaliers turned three hits into three runs in the bottom of the third.

The Cavaliers broke the game open with five runs on five singles off Tyler Bennett in the fifth.

The Eagles put runners on in three of the final four innings but were unable to build a rally. Nick Kosenske allowed only one run over three innings in relief to close out the game.

Coach Renauro Says:
"We were able to execute early on in the game. We have been spending a lot of time on those situations in the winter. They had a few more ground balls and line drives get through than we did in the end. It' is encouraging to see us hit some balls hard on the ground and on a line this early in the year."

"Mickey Foytik didn't have his best stuff today. It was pretty cold and he didn't have a feel for his off-speed pitches. As a staff we need to pound the strike zone more efficiently."
