Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Falls at No. 3 Stevenson to End First Year

OWINGS MILLS, Md.– Eastern University Men's Volleyball wrapped up the program's first season with a three-set loss at No. 3 Stevenson. Anthony Smith led the Eagles with six kills and a pair of blocks.

How It Happened:
The Eagles had some line-up changes for the final game of the season. With nagging injuries Darren Lopez switched spots with Cameron Parsons and Christian Knaub moved into the libero role. The Eagles struggled out fo the gate with only three kills in the opening set against the big and fast Mustangs.

The Eastern offense was a little more effective in the second set with six kills, the Stevenson offense was even more so. The Mustangs (29-3, 13-1 MAC) hit a stunning .609 on the way to a 25-15 win in the second set. The Eagles put down seven kills in the third but fell 25-13.

Lopez finished with 14 assists in his setting debut.

Eastern finishes the program's first year with a 7-11 mark overall. Lopez finishes his rookie season with 195 kills in 57 sets. Parsons ends his first season with 442 assists.

Coach Syracuse Says:
"It's tough to play Stevenson on a good day. When you add the excitement of it being their senior day and our need to change the line-up , it was destined to be a short match. We had some really good moments. Nick had some great digs and swings, but it was going to take a lot of great plays to beat them today."

"Though we may have fallen short of our quest for some more victories, I don't think anyone on the team sees this as a failure. We laid some really good ground work for the future. We have players committed to join us who will add to our line-up and give us more depth and competitiveness in practice."
