Men's Lacrosse Falters in Home Opener

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– After starting the year with two games away, Eastern University Men's Lacrosse opened the home part of the schedule with a 13-6 loss to the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland (2-2). Mark Buannic scored twice for the Eagles in the loss.

How it Happened:
After the two teams slogged through a turnover-laden first period at 1-1, the visitors jumped to a 3-1 lead with a pair of early goals. Buannic scored in transition off a good feed from Antonio Yeoman in the middle of the period, and it looked like the Eagles might have figured out the attack and changed momentum in the game.

That change, however, never happened. The Seahawks answered with three goals before halftime and scored the first three goals of the second half to build an 8-2 edge. Trent Ashton scored from Buannic to stop the run, but St. Mary's grabbed three more goals to lead 12-3 with three and a half minutes left in the third. Nate Hawkins scored off the next face-off, and Colin Piper found Sam Emig for a goal in the closing seconds of the period, but without a big run of possession, there would be no comeback. The Eagles won 14-of-23 face-offs in the game, but the Seahawks won two-of-three in the fourth quarter and managed the clock on the way to th 13-6 final.

St. Mary's goalie Ross Snoderly stopped 16 shots and Jude Brown had three goals and six assists. Brett McDonald made nine stops.

Coach Wallace says:
"We were not very good today. They came all this way on a bus and we had a bunch of turnovers early. We did not take good care of the ball and allowed them to get to too many good spots on offense. This was a very frustrating loss. We need to use this and get better."

The Eagles will play Frostburg State at Johns Hopkins next Tuesday night.
