GLENSIDE, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey scored a pair of second half goals, but the Eagles were unable to find the equalizer in a 3-2 season-ending loss at Arcadia University.
Joelle Wash and
Ali Balmer each had goals for the Eagles.
How It Happened:
The host Knights jumped to a 2-0 lead at halftime and stretched the lead to 3-0 with a goal midway through the third period. The Eagles, who were out-shot 7-1 in the first half found opportunities as the third period went on and closed the gap with a goal from Balmer in the 42nd minute.
Moriah Greene provided the service for the goal.
Balmer's tally was her eighth of the year to go with a team-best seven assists. She finishes her career with 31 goals.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles (6-12) earned three consecutive penalty corners. Wash found the backboard for her ninth goal of the year on the third one.
Becky Howard picked up an assist on the goal. Howard finishes her senior season with three goals and five assists.
Marley Redfield made four saves without allowing a goal in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles had several chances to tie the match, but Arcadia goalie Ashton Evans made a pair of late saves and a brave Arcadia defender blocked another Wash blast. With realignment in the MAC, Eastern and Arcadia will switch leagues next fall.
Coach Azzarano Says:
"Today's game was a tough one and showed many reasons why we are holding our heads high; that we are proud of who we are. This season showed growth in important areas and yet also demonstrated how we can focus and commit to being better as we believe in what we are doing together every day. There is much love for our two seniors Ali and Becky and all they mean to EUFH."
