Women's Volleyball Falls at Stevens

Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J.– Eastern University Women's Volleyball dropped a three-set decision to MAC Freedom newcomer Stevens Institute of Technology in a battle of league unbeatens. The host Ducks hit .260 in the match to secure at least a share of the Regular Season title and the top seed in the upcoming MAC Freedom Tournament.

How It Happened:
After a first set that could not have gone worse, the Eagles found a little life and built a 14-10 lead in the the second set on a four point run with Morgan Kline at the serving line. The Ducks (14-11, 6-0) however, quickly rediscovered their sideout game and held the Eagles to just a pair of points on serve the rest of the set. Their tough serving put the Eastern attack on its heels and the big Stevens block made life easier for the defense behind. The Eagles hit only .027 in dropping the second set 25-20.

The Eastern attack had more success early in the third with kills from all four outside hitters and the set was tied at 17-17. The Ducks serving again came to life and put the Eagles on their heels to score eight of the final nine points to claim the third set by a 25-18 score. The Ducks won the first set 25-7.

Caroline Shelby finished the match with eight kills and Ally Spillane had seven. Allie Morton led the Ducks with 12 kills.

The Eagles will be the second seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament for the third year in a row. The Ducks can claim the outright regular season championship with a win over Delaware Valley next week.

Coach Birtwistle Says:
"Unfortunately, we started off slowly tonight and never really got into our offensive rhythm.  Stevens put a lot of pressure on our defense and we weren't able to respond.
We need to put this behind us and look forward to a positive weekend."

Up Next:
The Eagles will host Stockton University on Friday night. Eastern S.A.A.C is sponsoring an 'America' theme night and is asking fans to don their most patriotic outfits for the event. The match starts at 7.
