ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Volleyball improved to 5-0 in the MAC Freedom and secured a first-round home match with a three-set home win over Delaware Valley University.
Cecilia Bauer led the Eagles with 11 kills and ten digs.
How It Happened:
The Eagles (13-8, 5-0) put pressure on the Aggie defense immediately and jumped to a 10-2 lead in the opening set. Four Eagles had two kills in winning the set 25-13, but the team hit just .033.
Caroline Shelby had a pair of aces in the first set.
The Aggies (4-15, 0-5) found life in the second set and built a 15-10 lead on the strength of a strong five-point serving run from Krista Hiller. Though the Eagles reduced the deficit, they were unable to take the lead for good until a Del Val service error put the Eagles up 21-20.
Ally Spillane delivered an ace and another point on serve to give the Eagles a 23-20 lead. After an Aggie sideout, Shelby put away the final kills of the set to put the Eagles up 2-0 in the match.
Mickayla Kauffman had six of her nine digs in the second set.
Eastern jumped to an 8-2 lead in the third set and pulled away to a 25-12 win. Spillane had seven kills on 12 swings in the set and Bauer put away six kills on seven attempts as the Eagles hit .387 with 17 kills in the third. Spillane finished the match with 10 kills and a .364 hitting percentage.
Eastern and Stevens Institute of Technology are both unbeaten in the league. King's beat Wilkes this evening and DeSales beat Misericordia. All of those teams came into tonight 2-2 in the MAC Freedom.
