ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey led twice, but could not hold on as the visiting Elizabethtown College Blue Jays (7-2) scored three times in the second half for a 3-2 win.
Macey Talhelm and
Becky Howard scored for the Eagles.
How It Happened:
Eastern scored early on a penalty corner goal. Talhelm redirected an Ali Hoag shot for her third goal of the year. Hoag has seven goals and two assists on the season.
After the Blue Jays tied the match in the first moments of the second half, the Eagles grabbed the lead back in the 46th minute.
Ali Balmer earned the edge on the right side and found Howard in front of the cage. Howard knocked in her second of the year.
That lead, however, was short-lived. Elizabethtown's Lauren Scheib knocked in a rebound on a penalty corner play. Sheib capped the scoring in the 65th minute with her third of the day.
Marley Redfield made 13 saves in goal for the Eagles.
Coach Azzarano Says:
"We had some very specific focus points in practice yesterday, and we were executed those very well in the first half. Our players stepped to the ball all around the field to generate more offensive opportunities and eliminate transition attempts."
"We still had some critical defensive breakdowns. We needed to keep the momentum and mindset of the first half to counter their intense second half start."
