PURCHASE, N.Y.— Eastern University Baseball fell behind early and saw a late rally fall short in 14-9 series-opening loss at Manhattanville College.
Timmy Gorton had a pair of hits, including a two-run home run to lead the late surge.
The host Valiants jumped out to a 12-0 lead before the Eagles were able to scratch out for runs in the seventh inning. Eastern tacked on to more with Gorton's 11th career homerun in the eighth.
Gorton, Eastern's career leader in hits, RBIs, runs, doubles, and total bases, is now tied for the career lead in home runs as well.
Craig Stanley hit an RBI double in the ninth, but the Eagles were never able to get the tying run to the plate against Manhattanville.
Robbie Schreck,
Jake Jones, and
Kyle Daddario all joined Gorton with two-hit afternoons.
The Eagles will wrap up the 2018 season with a home doubleheader against Manhattanville tomorrow. Eastern will honor its six seniors prior to the 1:00 pm start.
