Men's Lacrosse Tops Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse (7-6, 4-0 MAC Freedom) remained unbeaten in MAC Freedom games with a 13-8 win at Manhattanville. The Eagles recovered from a lackluster third quarter to pull away in the fourth.

The Eagles scored teh first four goals of the game and led 7-1 with a minute to play in the first half. Six different Eastern players scored in the opening half. Sean Fechter, who scored the first and fourth goals, was the only Eastern player with more than one in the first. Fechter added two more in the second half to finish with a team-high four in the game. He also had an assist.

Eastern had a 25-12 edge in shots in the half and Zach Bauer continued to do his job at the faceoff X. The Eagles won 9-of-11 in the first half and 18-of-24 in the game. Bauer had seven ground balls, and Chris Durning had eight.

The Valiants grabbed a little momentum with a goal from Andrew Murray in the final minute of the half.

Fechter started the scoring in the third, but Manhattanville answered quickly. Hassan Mackey scored from Trent Ashton to put the Eagles up 9-3 with ten minutes to play in the period. Manhattanville then scored three in a four-minute stretch to pull to within three at 9-6.

Fechter and Jake Billera each scored to start the fourth, and the two teams traded goals the rest of the way.

"We had a ton of shots int he game," Head Coach Kevin Wallace said after the win. "We had a stretch where we just got impatient. Instead of working for a great look that was coming, we took an ok shot. They got three in a row and we needed to settle down. They [Manhattanville] have a good offensive group. After that stretch in the third we settled in, took care of the ball, and limited their chances."

Jameal Hadeed finished with 13 stops. Trevor Gallion had a goal and two assists and Trent Ashton had two goals and two assists

The win keeps the Eagles in the top spot in the MAC Freedom standings. Eastern has home games against FDU-Florham and Wilkes before finishing the regular season at King's.
