Women's Cross Country Prepared for Mideast Regional

Eastern University Women's Cross Country will have one final day to prepare for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Mideast Regional at DeSales University tomorrow. The Eagles are making the trip to the DeSales course for the second time this season. The team finished sixth of 25 teams in their first outing in early October, which was used as a tune-up for bigger races to come. This second trip to Center Valley will be the biggest on the calendar for the Eagles to date this season.

The Eagles finished 24th at last year's Mideast Regional. Head Coach Mike Wilson believes that his group has the depth and talent to make a huge jump in the standings this season.

The region features three teams in the top 25 in the USTFCCCA National Rankings. Johns Hopkins (1), Dickinson (6), and Carnegie Mellon (25) figure to set a fast pace which might enable a fourth team to grab an at large bid to the National Championships. In addition to qualifying teams, the top individuals not on a qualifying team will earn a spot in next weekend's race in Oshkosh, Wisc.

The Eagles popped into the regional rankings in week six and are currently just outside the top ten. With good races from all seven runners, Wilson feels his group can make a jump into the top ten. Megan Bernotas, Katelyn Bernotas, and Kierra Zack all have a chance to work into the top group vying for an All-Region Honor and a chance at the National Championships.
