ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– With a fast-break lay-up early in the game,
Regie Robinson became the 16th woman in Eastern Basketball history to reach 100 points for her career. The team's lone senior then proceeded to all she could to make sure that effort came in a win. Robinson scored 24 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked five shots, had four assists, and made three steals in a 93-62 win over the visiting Penn State Harrisburg Lions (4-3).
The big play of the game came after
Da'Naziah Brown pulled down a defensive rebound midway through the first quarter, Brown made a dribble move to escape pressure and saw Robinson running toward the rim. Brown's 35-foot pass hit Robinson in stride and the senior forward converted the easy lay-up for a 9-6 Eastern lead and her 999th and 1000th career points. After a timeout to celebrate, Robinson hit a 3-pointer on a dish from
Naomi Harris to put the Eagles up 12-6.
The visitors took a brief lead at 15-13, but
Brynn Schmidt split a pair of free throws and Robinson fed
Jaelyn Harris on the wing for a 3-pointer and a 17-15 lead. the Eagles started the second quarter on a 9-to-0 run and never trailed again.
Brianna Young-Harris scored seven points in the period as Eastern built a 12-point lead. The Lions scored six of the last eight points in the quarter to go to the locker room within eight points at 36-28.
The Eagles used good execution on offense and tenacious defense to start the second half on an 18-to-4 run. Eastern made 10-of-17 shots from the floor and 8-of-10 shots from the line on the way to a 67-49 lead with ten minutes to play.
The Eastern lead continued to grow in the fourth as the Eagles made 8-of-16 shots from the floor and 9-of-12 from the line.
Jaelyn Harris finished with 19 points with three made 3-pointers, Brown had eight points and 12 rebounds to go with five assists. Schmidt hit a new career high with nine points on 4-of-8 shooting, and
Viki Kneis had 18 points and eight rebounds. Young-Harris, who left the game with injury, finished with 12 points.
Ana Mahan had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lions.
Eastern will host York College of Pennsylvania on Saturday at 1:00 pm before starting into the conference season at King's College next Wednesday.
