Seven Earn MAC-Freedom Men's Soccer Honors

ANNVILLE, Pa.– The Middle Atlantic Conference Office today released all-conference lists for Men's Soccer. League Coaches picked seven players from the regular season champion Eastern University Men's Soccer squad for recognition as All-MAC Freedom performers. Led by Defensive Player of the Year Jacob Myers, the Eagles put four players on the First team, two on the Second Team, and had another player receive honorable mention.

With an unbeaten run through the regular season, the Eagles became the first MAC Freedom team to navigate the full year without a loss or a tie since the Drew University Rangers did it in 2002.

In running the table, the Eagles had five shutouts and outscored league opponents 20-2. Eastern never trailed in a regular-season league match and had six different players record game-winning goals.

Myers, the Defensive Player of the Year, led the Eagles with eight goals from his spot in the middle of the back row. The senior from Westminster, Md. has 22 goals in his career. Nine of those have stood as game-winners. While he has moved to different spots in the Eastern lineup through his career, Myers played almost exclusively in the back this year. Eastern opponents have scored only 12 goals in 19 matches. Only Wilkes and FDU-Florham were able to find the goal in the conference regular season. Myers earned second-team honors in 2016 and 2017 and was the Championship MVP in 2015.

Senior outside back Jake Cahill and junior center back Jake Sankey joined Myers in earning recognition. Cahill, on the Second Team for the second year in a row, is an excellent one-v-one defender who causes opponents problems with his dangerous runs from deep positions. With injuries through the year, Cahill has moved from left to right without any drop in performance. He earned honorable mention recognition as a sophomore in 2016.

Sankey received Honorable Mention for the second time in his career. He earned that honor as a forward in 2016. He started the year in the midfield, but an injury early int he sixth game left Myers needing a partner in the back row. In the 14 games with Sankey in the back row The Eagles have surrendered only eight goals and Sankey has scored four goals and picked up three assists.

Anthony Hitchcock moved into the starting line-up in mid-September. The Eagles have not lost with the big sophomore in goal. League coaches picked him for the Second Team. Hitchcock is 12-0-1 with seven shutouts in 13 starts. He has a .59 goals against average and an 81.8 save percentage. His control of the box on restarts has proved very valuable in helping the Eagles to six 1-0 wins this fall.

Eastern put three attacking players on the First Team.

Colin Furlong, the 2017 Offensive Player of the Year, returned to the First Team for the second year in a row. He earned second-team honors as a sophomore. The senior midfielder has played 90 or more minutes in a match nine times and has, while putting up his best offensive numbers, come more effective as a ball-winner and distributor. With 12 assists this fall, he now has 30 for his career.

Cade Harmon makes his third consecutive appearance on the First Team. The 2016 Offensive Player of the Year has six goals and three assists while moving between the midfield and target positions in Eastern's attack. Harmon's running off the ball and ability to find tight seams in defenses has helped the Eastern attack to find critical goals. He scored the game-winner in Eastern's regular-season finale against King's and set up the overtime game-winner the Saturday before at DeSales.

Liam Harmon joins his older brother on the First Team as a midfielder. The sophomore flank player was a huge addition to the Eastern squad as a transfer this fall. HIs value to the attack surpassed his numbers. With an ability to break down defenders on the dribble, he helped pull defenses apart to create opportunities in internal space. He played as a true two-way midfielder who embraced his defensive responsibilities fully.

The Eagles will host King's in the MAC Championship match tomorrow at 2:00 PM. It is the fifth consecutive year the Eagles are playing in the Championship Match. The Eagles claimed Championships in 2015 and 2016 and fell in penalty kicks in 2017.
