Volleyball Tops Wilkes in Three

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Volleyball used aggressive serving and timely offense to earn a three-set win against the visiting Wilkes University Colonels. The Eagles (14-3, 3-1 MAC Freedom) served 15 aces and hit .312 to earn their third MAC Freedom win.

How it Happened:
The Eagles hit .429 to win the opening set 25-10. Five different players had assists in the set as the Eagles found ways to attack out of system. Katie Stenby had three aces in an eight-point run late in the set.

With the Colonels trailing 17-15 in the second set, Caroline Shelby served a pair of aces to put the Eagles up 19-15. Cecilia Bauer had an ace as she served for the final two points. Michelle Paulsen had four of her eight kills in the second set.

Paulsen had five aces and Sarah Roberts converted all four of her hitting attempts in the third set on the way to a  25-16 result. Roberts finished with a team-high 10 kills and five blocks. Bauer had 14 digs.

Coach Birtwistle Says:
"We did a good job of putting them under pressure with our serving. We had several aces, but we were also able to get control of several points by being aggressive with the serve. We have been working to attack on the serve without making errors and that was the difference tonight. We have some things to work on going into a tough weekend, but it is good to see us serve well."

Up Next:
The Eagles will play Scranton at Rowan on Friday in the first match of a three-match weekend. On Saturday, Eastern will play Rowan and Frostburg State.
