Wash Scores Three; Field Hockey Falls

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey scored four times but was unable to put together a run of goals in a 6-4 Homecoming loss to the visiting DeSales University Bulldogs. Joelle Wash scored three times in the loss.

How It Happened:
The Bulldogs (6-7, 3-1 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring with a goal on their first shot of the match. It came in the ninth minute on a smash from the top of the circle on a penalty corner.

The Eagles answered in the 20th minute on a beautiful reverse stick shot from Wash. The sophomore midfielder took a pass from Sami Britton and pushed the ball inside the circle before releasing a shot to the back post.

The Bulldogs then scored three times in a ten-minute stretch to grab momentum int he game. The first of those goals came on a rebound after a penalty corner. The second was an amazing volley in transition, but the third goal in the sequence was also off a rebound on a penalty corner.

Eastern grabbed some momentum back in the 34th minute when Ali Hoag put away her 11th goal of the year after a great run and feed from Alli Dickinson, but the Bulldogs again had an answer on a penalty corner in the final seconds of the half. Yet another rebound shot crossed the goal line with one second on the clock.to put DeSales up 5-2 at the break.

Less than three minutes after halftime, Wash scored on a rip from the top of the circle after Ali Balmer beat her mark on the left side. Again, the Bulldogs had an answer. They scored in the 42nd minute on another rebound off a penalty corner. 

Wash completed her hat trick with nearly 15 minutes to play, but the Eagles were unable to close the gap further.

Eastern (3-11, 1-3 MAC Freedom) will host Misericordia on Wednesday before going on the road to Manhattanville and Delaware Valley to wrap up the league schedule.
