Women's Basketball Falters in Fourth at Rowan

GLASSBORO, N.J.– Eastern University Women's Basketball led after three quarters, but the Host Rowan University Profs (10-5) outscored the Eagles 31-19 in the fourth quarter to pull away to an 89-78 win. The Eagles made 8-of-17 shots in the third quarter to erase a nine-point halftime deficit, but the profs made 10-of-17 field goals and 11-of-13 free throws to pull away.

Eastern (4-11) came into the game short-handed and became a little more so when Amanda Riiff picked up her second foul in the second minute of the game. Nonetheless, the Eagles used a balanced attack to keep the game within range through halftime.

Taylor Azer led the Eagles with 10 points at the break. Brianna Young-Harris, Taylor Price, and Da'Naziah Brown each had six points and Maya Harris and Viki Kneis each had five as the Eagles trailed 50-41.

Eastern put together an excellent defensive stand in the third. After giving up 7-of-10 3-pointers in the first half, the Eagles held the Profs to eight points and 0-of-8 shooting from distance. Amanda Riiff made a pair of 3-pointers in an 18-4 run to start the half, and the Eagles had the ball with a chance to build on a  five point lead, but a turnover in the back court gave the Profs a chance to stem the tide, and the Eastern lead shrunk to 59-58 as the quarter ended.

The Profs committed to going inside in the fourth and were effective in their shooting and at the foul line. The hosts did not attempt a fourth-quarter 3-pointer.

Young-Harris put together a stellar stat-line. The sophomore forward recorded her second-career and second-consecutive double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also had three steals and dished out seven assists. Price had 14 points and five rebounds, Maya Harris scored 13, and Riiff made three 3-pointers to finish with 11. Brown had eight points and a career-best nine rebounds.

The Eagles will play on the road again on Wednesday at FDU-Florham.
