MADISON, N.J.– Eastern University Softball returned to the road for a MAC Freedom doubleheader at FDU-Florham. The Eagles have now played away from home for nine of their 22 games this spring. The road-weary Eagles struggled to get offense going and dropped both games to the host Devils.
Melissa Irick kept the Devils off balance early, but a third-inning home run would be all the offense FDU would need in an 8-0 game-one win. The Eagles managed only two hits in the loss.
The Devils scored two in the fourth and and four in the fifth to lead 6-0 before the Eagles scratched out a pair of runs with a two-out rally in the seventh. The Eagles had four of their seven hits in the seventh inning. All nine Eastern hits on the day were singles.
Eastern will host Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday.
