Women's Lacrosse Rally Falls Short at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse scored five goals in a five and a half minute span to pull within a goal at 11-10 at halftime, but the host Arcadia University Knights (5-1) scored four of the first five goals in the second half and pulled away to a 22-13 win on a bitter-cold afternoon. Liz Brennan scored four goals to lead the Eastern attack.

The Knights led 2-0 before the Eagles touched the ball. Arcadia controlled the first two draws of the match and converted on both possessions in the first minute. The Eagles won the third draw of the game, but a quick turnover led to another Arcadia goal with just over two minutes gone in the game.

Liz Brennan finally got the Eagles on the scoreboard with a strong move from behind the goal at the five minute mark. The Knights built their lead to 11-5 with six and a half minutes to play in the first half.

The Eagles responded to the six-goal deficit with excellent execution on draws and in the attacking circle. Eastern won five of the final seven draws of the first half. Liz Brennan controlled four of those. Alina Odjemski made three saves in the stretch, and the Eagles got five goals from four different players. Julie Haggan scored twice in the run and Anna Charlebois, Liz Brennan, and Sam Brennan each added single tallies. Sam Brennan scored the final goal of the half on a free postion shot with 26 seconds left. Sam scored her first three goals of the season in the first half.

Odjemski made a great save on a free position shot as time expired int he first half. Arcadia had a 23-22 edge in shots in the first half. After starting slowly on draw controls, the Eagles garnered 13-of-22 in the half.

The Knights scored three goals in a two-minute stretch at the start of the second half and eventually built their lead to 20-12 with six minutes left. Anna Charlebois scored the final Eastern goal of the match with five minutes left. Arcadia enjoyed a 10-5 advantage on second-half draw controls.

Charlebois, Haggan, and Sam Brennan each finished with three goals. The Knights had two players score five times. Shannon Ryan totaled 13 points on five goals and eight assists for Arcadia.

"We showed what we are capable of doing in that stretch in the first half," Head Coach Kim Campbell said of the game. "Our defense starting to come together and this is important as we look ahead to our next game and soon our conference games. I walk away encouraged for what we will generate in our next game. We need to attack sooner and continue to make smart decisions with the ball. "

The Eagles (1-5)  will host Widener University at one on Saturday.
