Softball Stumbles In Season Finale

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Eastern Softball was swept on Saturday afternoon by host Manhattanville by the final scores of 8-0 and 7-2. Maria Day and Alyssa Bolger each recorded home runs in game two of the doubleheader giving each of them three and two respectively for the season.

After falling behind 2-0 after the first inning of game two Bolger pulled Eastern (12-26, 4-10 MAC Freedom) within one in the top of the third. Bolger led off the inning with a solo shot to right-center field to make it a 2-1 game. Manhattanville (34-2, 12-2) answered right back in the bottom half of the inning plating four runs to extend its lead to 6-1.

In the very next inning after a leadoff groundout, Day launched a solo shot to center field to pull the Eagles back within four. That would be the extent of the Eastern offense as the Valiants tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score final at 7-2.

In the first game, Eastern was unable to generate any offense falling 8-0 in five innings. Manhattanville totaled four home runs in the game, three in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead.

The lead was stretched to 6-0 after the second inning which all but sealed the win for the Valiants. Two more runs in the third and fifth inning made the score final.

Eastern totaled 11 hits on the afternoon whole Bolger went a combined 2-for-5 with an RBI and a walk. Day finished the afternoon going 2-for-5 as well with an RBI.
