CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Eastern Baseball dropped a 7-4 decision to the Bulldogs of DeSales University on Friday afternoon.
Angelo Kelly was the only player to record a multi-hit game going 2-5 and now has 51 hits for the season tying him for third-most in a single season.
Kelly led off the game with a single to center field to pull within one of third place. He would then single to short in the top of the fourth to record hit number 51 and tie Andre Butler for third all-time on the single-season hits list.
Eastern (13-16-3, 6-8 MAC Freedom) fell behind early, trailing 5-0 after the first three innings. The Eagles battled back though in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to just two.
After
Andrew Boykin and
Andrew Check reached base safely, Eastern would score three runs in a row to trim the Bulldogs lead to 5-3.
Shane Albertson doubled to center field to score Boykin and get the Eagles on the scoreboard.
Tommy Strazza delivered an RBI single the very next at-bat followed by a
Craig Stanley sacrifice fly to cap off the scoring run.
Timmy Gorton plated the final run of the game for the Eagles in the top of the sixth inning when he doubled to left center to score Stanley. DeSales would tack on two more runs, one in the fifth and one in the sixth to make the score final at 7-4.
Ryan Kehr took the loss dropping his record to 3-4 on the season as he went seven innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs, six earned, while striking out one. Albertson finished the game going 1-4 scoring one run with an RBI while Strazza went 1-4 with an RBI.
Eastern currently sits two games back of fourth-place King's in the MAC Freedom standings with seven conference games left to play.
The Eagles host DeSales April 23rd starting at 12 pm.
