Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Comes Up Short Against Misericordia

DALLAS, Pa. - Eastern Baseball fought hard but was swept by Misericordia on Thursday afternoon, falling by scores of 3-1 and 6-4. The Eagles were held to 11 total hits on the day by the Misericordia pitching staff, but did find some offensive rhythm and rallied in the seventh inning of game two before falling just short of tying the game.

In the first game, Eastern (6-9-2, 3-3 MAC Freedom) took a 1-0 lead after Joseph De Los Santos singled to left field to drive in Timmy Gorton. However, after the single the Eagles were held hitless for the remainder of the game by Misericordia's (12-5, 5-1 MAC Freedom) Ryan Dorosh.

The Cougars scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Back-to-back singles by Kyle Lindsay and Alec Iurato plated runs for Misericordia. Another run in the bottom of the sixth made the score final at 3-1.

Dorosh finished the game throwing a complete game, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out six and forcing nine groundouts to earn his third win of the season.
Ryan Kher went five innings allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out four.

In the second game, Eastern fell behind 6-0 after the first three innings after giving up a four-run third inning. In the final three innings, Eastern started to mount a comeback and find its offensive stride.

In the top of the fifth inning, Shane Albertson and Craig Stanley led off with back-to-back singles. Both players advanced on a wild pitch to give the Eagles runners on second and third. Nick Centeno grounded out to short but scored Albertson to cut the deficit to 6-1. Two batters later, Angelo Kelly singled to right field later driving in Stanley to pull Eastern within four at 6-2.

After going three up and three down in the sixth inning, the Eagles made one last stand in the top of the seventh. Albertson once again singled to lead off the inning to give Eastern a base runner down four. Stanley homered to left the very next at-bat to cut the deficit to just two at 6-4 with no outs in the seventh. However, the Cougars recorded three outs in the final three batters to end the rally and make the score final at 6-4.

Stanley finished the game going 2-3 with two RBI's and scoring two runs. Josh Freed took the loss going three innings allowing seven hits and six runs while recording four groundouts.

Eastern hosts Haverford College on March 29th at 3:30 pm.
