ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Two early goals proved to be the difference as Eastern University Field Hockey dropped a 2-0 decision to the visiting FDU-Florham Devils on Homecoming Saturday.

The Devils scored on a penalty corner in the fifth minute and on a scrum in the circle in the ninth minute to grab an early lead in the contest and force an Eastern timeout. After the timeout, the Eagles had more of the play but were unable to convert any of their four first-half penalty corners into a goal.

"We put things together and played right with them," Camrin Azzarano said of her team after the timeout, "but we were unable to make the critical connections deep in their end."

The visiting Devils put together a flurry of activity in the first ten minutes of the second half, but sophomore goalie Nicole Berger was equal to the task with five big saves in a seven-minute stretch to keep her team within range.

FDU goalie Samantha Rubin to make five saves to earn the shutout.

The Eagles play Franklin and Marshall College at home on Tuesday.
