Field Hockey Blanks Stockton

Eagles Score Twice to Win on the Road

GALLOWAY, N.J.- Eastern University Field Hockey scored a pair of second half goals to earn a 2-0 win at Stockton University. Nicole Berger made eight saves behind a very strong Eastern defense to pick up her first collegiate shutout.

"We entered the game with a great mindset," head coach Camrin Azzarano noted. " We truly played as a team, and there was a lot of trust in each other."

Azzarano made special note of the performance put in by Hayley Williams. With Megan Bolton away at a family wedding, the sophomore midfielder moved into the back row for the game. Williams also stepped up and delivered a beautiful finish on a penalty stroke in the 38th minute.

"We gained confidence and really started to move the ball after the goal," Azzarano continued. "Playing without Meg today, everyone had to step into a little bit of a different role. It gave us an opportunity to have more trust in each other. I thought Alyssa Rowe played a very smart game and provided us with a lot of defensive leadership."

Lauren gay finished her first goal of the year to double the lead in the 64th minute. Azzarano was very pleased with the way her team finished the game. She noted that her squad showed very good composure and managed the game very well on a hot day.

The Eagles (1-1) put 18 of their 21 shots on goal and had a 15-7 edge in penalty corners.

Eastern hosts Haverford College on Wednesday at 4:30.
