MADISON, N.J.--Eastern University Women's Lacrosse had its 2015 season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon in the Freedom Conference Semifinals against the FDU-Florham Devils. This was the first time that the Eagles have been in the conference tournament since 2012. Senior Rachelle Lehman is the only player on the current roster to have played on that postseason team.
The Devils eliminated the Eagles 15-3 Wednesday led by four goals from Joelle Manganella. Devils' Noelle Shirey added a trio of goals and three other players had a pair. Courtney Redinaro, who had two goals, facilitated much of FDU's scoring with seven assists.
Eastern's scoring was limited to sophomore Anna Charlebois' two goals and one goal from freshman Julie Haggan.
Charlebois and Haggan each had a free-position goal.
The Devils peppered the Eagles with 28 shots and held the Eagles to just three attempts in the first half and 11 total.
Eastern fell behind 1:13 into the game and the Devils marched to a 9-0 first-half lead with 7:20 remaining. The Eagles were never able to recover from that streak.
Eastern ended its scoring drought with 3:19 to go in the first half, a free-position goal by Haggan.
Sixty-five seconds into the second half, FDU went up by 10 goals.
Anna Charlebois scored a free-position goal early in the second half and capped Eastern's scoring with 13 seconds left in the game. Charlebois finishes the year with 58 goals this season. Haggan ends the season second in scoring behind Charlebois with 38 goals.
Senior Ari Borreggine led the Eagles with two caused turnovers.
The Eagles will lose starting defenders Borreggine and Lehman to graduation.
Eastern wraps up the season with a 6-12 overall record and a fourth place finish in the Freedom Conference.
The Eagles return a young talented squad next season and look to build on this year's progress in the future.
