Box Score GALLOWAY, N.J. - Eastern Volleyball lost a heartbreaking 3-2 result at Stockton University in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The host Ospreys won the final two sets of the match to advance to Sunday's Regional Final and avenge a 3-0 loss at Eastern earlier this year.
Eastern (29-8) dropped the opening set 25-22 but rallied back to take the next two sets by scores of 26-24 and 25-14. Stockton (32-4) then came roaring back to claim the next two sets 25-20 and 15-13.Â
Erin Hillman provided a big spark off the bench with eight kills in the second and third sets. She finished the match with ten kills.
The Eagles hit .548 in the third set and seemed to have grabbed control of the match, but the Ospreys rallied in the fourth set to grab the momentum back. Stockton trailed 8-6 in the set before using a strong service game and efficient passing to build a 22-15 edge.
Rikki Schlager served a pair of aces in a 4-0 run, but the deficit proved to be too great, and the Ospreys forced a decisive fifth set.
Stockton used the momentum to build a 6-2 lead in the decisive fifth set. An early lead in the short set is a huge advantage. The Eagles were able to side out efficiently and earn two points on serve, but they could not generate enough offense to dig their way out of the early hole.
Overall Eastern hit .183 in the match while Stockton totaled a .235 hitting percentage.
Stephanie Elechko had a match-high 17 kills, and
Morgan Shemonski put down 15 kills.
Rylie Haas finished with 16 digs. She finished the year with 571 digs. Schlager led the Eagles with 52 assists, tallied four aces, recorded 12 digs.

Kaitlyn Gochenauer, Hillman, and Schlager this ends a tremendous run. As a group, they won 122 games and four MAC Freedom titles. They earned four trips to the NCAA Tournament.
Stockton will play Randolph-Macon, who upset No. 6 Christopher Newport in the other Regional Semifinal, in tomorrow's Regional Final.
