GETTYSBURG, Pa.—Eastern Volleyball swept Marietta College and Gallaudet University on Friday evening to open the year 2-0. The two wins gave seniors Katrina Pisch and Lauren Sproles 100 match victories for their career. They've reached the century mark accompanied by just 14 losses in that span.
The Eagles took care of the Marietta College Pioneers 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 in a tight three-set match and then made quicker work of the Gallaudet Bison 25-13, 25-12, 25-17.
Eastern showed a marked improvement in hitting from the first game to the second, hitting .222 against Marietta while pummeling the Bison with a .457 attack percentage. Pisch led the Eagles in that game with a .750 hitting percentage (9-for-12 with no errors). Junior outside hitter Erin Hillman had a team-high 12 kills against Gallaudet while hitting .579. Sophomore middle hitter Steph Elechko led the Eagles against Marietta with 11 kills on 22 attempts with one error.
Sproles, a senior outside hitter, tallied 13 kills over the two matches and added 28 digs, two shy of libero Rylie Haas' two-match dig total.
Setter Rikki Schlager recorded 27 assists against Marietta and dished out 38 more against Gallaudet.
Eastern plays twice more on Saturday at the Gettysburg College Invitational. The Eagles challenge Washington College at 10 a.m. followed by Salve Regina University at noon.
