Softball No-Hit In Season Finale

PURCHASE, N.Y.--Eastern Softball had its bats silenced by solid pitching at Manhattanville College on Saturday afternoon in the final series of 2014.

The Eagles dropped both games of the doubleheader by scores of 8-0. Eastern tallied four hits in game one, but were no-hit in game two by Manhattanville senior pitcher Alyssa Taylor. Melinda Kreimer was the Eagles' lone base-runner in game two, walking in the second inning.

Manhattanville finished the regular season with the best record in the Freedom Conference, 13-1.

Eastern pitchers Alyssa Welsh and Haleigh Williams took the losses as the Eagles' season drew to a close.

The Eagles complete the 2013-2014 campaign with a 16-19 overall record and a 4-10 record in the Freedom Conference. They had no seniors on their roster this season and just one junior, Emily Houck, and had nine freshman that made immediate impacts. Several of the Eagles' freshmen will be pushing for All-Conference recognition after solid rookie seasons.

One tell-tale sign of the team's improvement from last season was the spike in the team's batting average. The Eagles improved their batting average from .251 in 2013 to .285 in 2014.

With a solid core of young, talented players, Eastern Softball will be back next season with a strong chance of making a playoff push.
