Men's Lacrosse Stumbles Against Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa.—Less than 24 hours after an emotional win against Colorado College, Eastern Men's Lacrosse took the field against nationally ranked Gettysburg College. The No. 19 Gettysburg Bullets gunned down the Eagles 21-4 Saturday afternoon.

The Bullets out-shot the Eagles 58-25 and won the ground ball battle 40-19.

Eastern's Grant Ferguson who entered the game with 99 career goals, a tie for the school record, was unable to break the tie Saturday. Gettysburg was also the only team to hold Ferguson scoreless in a game last year. Eric Waibel, Andy Jameson, Desmond Decker and Bill Schwartz each scored a goal for the Eagles.

Robby Maddux and Martin Manilla each scored five times to lead the Gettysburg attack. Maddux, a junior, has scored 17 of his 80 career goals in his three games against the Eagles.

Eastern took a 1-0 with 11:28 left in the first quarter with Decker's goal, assisted by Waibel. The Eagles held the lead throughout the first quarter, but Gettysburg strung together six consecutive goals in the second quarter to go into halftime up 6-1.

Andy Jameson scored 49 seconds into the third quarter with Dave Darling finding him for his 16th assist of the year. Gettysburg then answered with a goal two minutes later, but Eric Waibel made it a 7-3 game with a man-up goal, assisted by Jameson.

Gettysburg then blew the game wide open, netting 12 goals in a row. Eagles' senior Bill Schwartz scored his first goal of the year with 19 seconds to play.

To add insult to injury, Gettysburg netted a final tally with one second on the clock to bring the final score to 21-4.

Pat Groschan picked up the loss, allowing 10 goals while recording 11 saves. Nick DiPiano came in for Groschan in the third quarter, allowing 11 goals while recording three saves.

For only the second time this season (the first time being Friday) the Eagles did not win the face-off category. Gettysburg won 21-of-28 face-offs.

Eastern, now 5-2, will host Ursinus College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
